Halswell is a situated in a beautiful safe suburban area close to Christchurch, the largest city in the South Island. It is a wonderful environment for children to grow up in. It has traditional historical charm as well as modern vibrancy.

Halswell, a decile 10 school, is recognised for the academic excellence of our students as well as outstanding achievements in sports, the performing arts and creativity.

The school was established in 1864, has character and tradition as well as very modern additions and wonderful facilities. Halswell School is the hub of a very dynamic and very supportive community . There are many recreational and cultural activities for families to participate in.

Students at Halswell are very active, have many opportunities to try new things and gain new skills in extra curricular activities. Specialist teachers and coaches come in to the school to provide many different experiences in a huge range of sporting, musical, cultural and outdoors activities.

The Halswell Global Team provides extra care and support for students their families. We have a strong well established International Programme. Our English for ‘Speakers of Other Languages’ Programme helps the students learn English quickly and have success in their classroom learning.  Our International Staff are always there to help children and their parents in a special well-resourced home room.
